This guide will help you learn how to receive data from or publish it to an RSS feed using Apatar's RSS connector.

Reading from an RSS feed

  1. Drag-and-drop the RSS connector icon onto Apatar's main panel.

  2. Double-click on the connector to configure it.
  3. Make sure that Read RSS Feed is checked and click Next.

  4. Input the URL of the feed into the sourceUrl field. Alternatively, if you want to get data from a local file, please check ReadFeedFromFile and input the path to the file into the sourceFile field.

  5. Click Finish.
  6. Now, the RSS connector is ready to be read from. You can preview the RSS data by right-clicking on the node and selecting Preview Results.

Writing to an RSS feed

  1. Drag-and-drop the desired source connector's icon to Apatar's main panel. For instance, you might want to retrieve the data to be published to an RSS feed, from a database. In this example, we will use a Custom Table as a data source. Drag-and-drop the Custom Table icon to the main panel.

  2. Double-click on the connector to configure it. Check Apatar connector guides for information on configuring a specific connector.

  3. Drag-and-drop the node of the desired operation to Apatar's main panel. In this example, we will Transform the data from the custom table we created to a new RSS feed. To do so, drag-and-drop the Transform icon onto the main panel.
  4. Now, drag-and-drop the RSS connector icon onto Apatar's main panel.
  5. Double-click on the connector to configure it.
  6. Check Create RSS Feed and click Next.

  7. Specify the path to the output file. If a file with the specified name does not exist, it will be created. Otherwise, the file will be overwritten.
  8. Choose the desired RSS version. RSS 1.0, RSS 2.0 and Atom 1.0 are supported.

  9. In the Channel tab, specify the title and description of the channel.

  10. Switch to the Item tab. Add the necessary fields to your feed by selecting them in the right and clicking Add child.

  11. Switch to the Publishing tab. If you want to publish your feed to ApatarForge.org, make sure Publish RSS feed to ApatarForge.org is checked. (To register at ApatarForge.org, proceed here.)
If you don't want to get your feed published to ApatarForge.org, uncheck Publish RSS feed to ApatarForge.org.
  12. To publish your feed to ApatarForge.com, input your login details.

  13. Click Finish.
  14. Now, enter the chosen operation's mode by double-clicking its node.
  15. Cofigure the source and target data fields and provide the mapping.

  16. Click Ok to return to Apatar's main panel.
  17. To preview the results, right-click on the target node and select Preview Results.
