This guide will help you learn how to gain access to MySQL database tables.

Local MySQL Configuration

To gain access to MySQL tables,

  1. Drag-and-drop MySQL connector to Apatar's work panel.
  2. Double-click on the MySQL connector.
  3. Fill in the authorization details (database name, user name, password, and host address).
  4. If necessary, change the port number.

  5. Click Next.
  6. The list of MySQL tables occurs. Make a selection and choose a table you would like to extract data from or write data to.
  7. Click Next. If all the previous actions were performed correctly, you will see the names of the data fields.
  8. Click Finish.

If necessary, you can preview the data entries. To do so, right-click on the connector and choose "Preview Results".

Hosted MySQL Configuration

If you want to connect to MySQL database that is located on the hosted server and used for your website maintenance, you should take into consideration the following factor. Mostly, users who use their details in the website scripts (PHP, Perl, etc.) to access MySQL are not authorized to connect to database from another server. It means that only the clients (PHP, Perl, and other scripts) that are located on the same server where MySQL is located can connect to the database.

If the error occurred during your connection to MySQL, please check the following:

  • Check the accessibility of the server where MySQL database is located. (Server is available if you got a response after you run "ping" in the command line. However, if there is no response it does not mean there is no connection to the database, it may result from having the ICMP traffic blocked by antivirus or firewall.)
  • Check your login and password.
  • Check if the user is authorized to connect to the database. In particular, the user must have privileges to connect to MySQL from the host that is different from "localhost". These priveleges can be set up using either MySQL tools, or your website control panel (Plesk, Cpanel, or whatever.) Please note that sometimes the access to the database from outside the hosting server cannot be set up at all, due to the server security policies.

Pre-built MySQL DataMaps

Also, you can use pre-created DataMaps containing MySQL connectors. Please follow this link to download them at ApatarForge:
