I would LOVE to see the email connector be enhanced to support MS Exchange connections.
Our email admin will never allow IMAP or POP3 due to the authentication security issues (our domain runs strictly on NTMLv2).
This would help fill a huge hole in pushing direct emails into new Cases in SFDC, which is a featureset that even SFDC doesn't provide at all (Apatar already beats their poor offering just with IMAP and POP3 in an easy implementation).
An even larger wow factor would be if this new functionality could be set to parse the emails in a specific folder. This would allow us to make this happen without creating a seperate mailbox for these inbound emails, but rather just create a special rule for the emails coming in to a list to go to a specific folder (which we already do).
Cheers. |

Hi Paul,
Sorry for not getting back to you earlier. Connection to MS Exchange is something that we are thinking of creating. It still can be a couple of months before we get to develop this connector as we have other features in our pipeline but... what is your timeline for this project? Maybe I could do something to change our plans.
As for parsing emails to a specific folder do you need all emails from that account to be parced to one folder or just emails from specific senders or with a specific subject?
Thanks

Thanks Ludmila,
Basically, the Exchange connector should operate in the same fashion as the POP3 one, except it would also have the ability to choose a specific folder in teh mailbox. Since POP3 doesn't actually use folders on the server side, every email is in the inbox. Exchange actually uses folders on the server, so a little be more control on that aspect would be very helpful.
As far as timeline, I think what we'll be doing in teh interim is having Salesforce Pro Services build out an Apex Email Service, and we'll configure Exchange to deliver inbound copies to our generic email addresses to that email address as well. |

We'll need to give it thought , consider all the pros and cons...
As for MS Exchange connector, I've forwarded the info to our developers so that they can check how this can be done and when (I'd say at least in a couple of months 'cause there really are a lot of things on our list)
I'll keep you dated.
Regards,

Hi Ludmila,
Is there any update on the MS Exchange connector? I'm looking for the exact same connector Paul described.
Thanks

Hi Zoltan,
We haven't got to develop it yet. If we could find a user ready to sponsor part of the development, we'd be able to get down to the task right away. If you're willing to support the connector development, let me know and I'll have our developers estimate the effort needed to create it. _________________

Thanks, it might happen in the future, but not today.
I was just curious whether this is already available.
Thanks |

Hi, I have gone through the total discussion and have some interest in knowing the total time/hours required to build the exchange connector. Also provide me the features that will be included as part of the development. I can think of supporting the part of devevlopment based on the hours estimated.
Thanks

Hi, Rajanikanth,
Thanks for your interest and being ready to support the project.
I checked with a developer who's been analyzing the possibility of working with MS Exchange and the rough estimate of the work effort is 100-200 hours. You will be able to receive/send mail using this connector and you will also be able to work with a specific folder of course. Some other MS Exchange functionality might also be supported.
Again, this is a rough figure. To give you more accurate estimate we'll need to do some further analysis and as this will definitely take more than a couple of hours I need to know if you would be ready to support up to 50% of the development. And of course if you could give me the list of features you'd like to have supported we'd build the estimate around these features.
Shoot me an email at info@apatar.com so that we can discuss further _________________
